What Is a Spouse Visa?
A spouse visa allows the foreign-born husband or wife of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to immigrate to the United States and receive a green card. If your spouse is currently living outside of the U.S., this process takes place through a U.S. embassy or consulate in your spouse’s home country.

Overview of the Spouse Visa Process
Step 1: Petition Filing
File a petition with USCIS to prove you have a bonafide relationship and that you meet the eligibility requirements.
Step 2: NVC Process
After USCIS approves your petition, the next step is the application being sent to the National Visa Center. There is an extensive online application process including civil and financial documentation that is required.
Step 3: Embassy Interview
Your case will be sent to the U.S. embassy or consulate in your spouse’s home country where an interview will be scheduled for your spouse where they will have to answer questions about your relationship and their immigration history.
