K-1 fiancé visa and spouse visa applicants worldwide are receiving notices that their upcoming interviews have been canceled, sometimes with very little warning.
We have had clients receive cancellation notices the day before their scheduled interview.
For couples who have already waited months, or even years, to reach the interview stage, these last-minute cancellations are incredibly frustrating and upsetting. Many applicants have already completed medical exams, booked travel, taken time off work, and made plans around an interview they have anxiously waited for.
Why Are Visa Interviews Being Canceled?
The U.S. Department of State is conducting worldwide training for consular officers related to public charge determinations, which has disrupted visa interviews at U.S. embassies and consulates.
Unfortunately, there has been very little public guidance about how long these disruptions will last or when canceled interviews will be rescheduled.
What Should You Do If Your Interview Was Canceled?
If you received a cancellation notice, do not assume that it means there is a problem with your individual case. These cancellations affect visa applicants worldwide.
For now, watch closely for communication from the U.S. embassy or consulate handling your case. You should receive further instructions regarding rescheduling at a later date.
